About the Artwork
A hand-modelled buffalo head crowns this hollow, slab-built ceramic jar, its sweeping horns giving the lid a bold sculptural outline. Hand-painted underglaze and glaze create a dark surface accented by expressive eyes and green leaves around the base. Each jar is individually handmade and twice fired, with its own variations in shape, brushwork and finish.
Meet the subject
Meet Bheki, whose serious expression suggests he has a great deal on his mind. Usually, he is deciding where to graze next. He likes to stay close to his Zululand herd, lingering over good grass and enjoying a proper mud wallow when the heat builds. Those watchful eyes miss very little.
Each piece is handmade in Zululand, so slight variations in colour, size and finish are part of its unique character. Small imperfections reflect the care and human touch behind every creation. Turnaround times will be discussed when you place your order. Your piece will be thoughtfully packaged with care and shipped straight to your door.
