About the Artwork
This hollow, slab-built ceramic jar pairs a generous vessel form with hand-modelled pangolin details. Overlapping scales introduce texture and rhythm, making the surface an integral part of the sculpture. Each jar is individually handmade, hand-painted using underglaze and glaze, and twice fired, giving every piece its own character.
Meet the subject
Meet Thandeka, a quiet Zululand resident with a remarkably purposeful nose. She follows scent trails in search of ants and termites, investigating each promising patch before moving along. Her evenings unfold at ground level, one discovery at a time, with very little interest in attracting an audience.
Each piece is handmade in Zululand, so slight variations in colour, size and finish are part of its unique character. Small imperfections reflect the care and human touch behind every creation. Turnaround times will be discussed when you place your order. Your piece will be thoughtfully packaged with care and shipped straight to your door.
