About the Artwork
A hand-modelled hippo rises above a decorative stand edged with sculpted leaves and floral details. Handmade using slab construction, the hollow ceramic form balances rounded volume with smaller decorative elements. Grey tones, pink accents and botanical greens are hand-painted using underglaze and glaze. Each piece is individually made and twice fired.
Meet the subject
Meet Thandi, a vocal member of Zululand’s waterside neighbourhood. She adds her grunts to the morning chorus, then settles into the water as though the day’s most demanding work is complete. By evening, she is ready to leave the pool and follow her familiar grazing route, with plenty of stops along the way.
Each piece is handmade in Zululand, so slight variations in colour, size and finish are part of its unique character. Small imperfections reflect the care and human touch behind every creation. Turnaround times will be discussed when you place your order. Your piece will be thoughtfully packaged with care and shipped straight to your door.
