About the Artwork
An upturned pose creates an open, curved composition in this handmade ceramic pangolin. Built from slabs into a hollow form, the piece features individually hand-modelled scales that contrast with the smoother interior. Each sculpture is hand-painted with underglaze and glaze, then twice fired, allowing light to reveal the layered surface and gently irregular edges.
Meet the subject
Meet Nokuthula, a small Zululand character who likes to keep his own company. When something startles him, he curls into a protective ball, tucking his softer underside beneath his scales. Nokuthula takes a little time to feel secure; once the disturbance passes, his nose eventually persuades him to investigate the evening again.
Each piece is handmade in Zululand, so slight variations in colour, size and finish are part of its unique character. Small imperfections reflect the care and human touch behind every creation. Turnaround times will be discussed when you place your order. Your piece will be thoughtfully packaged with care and shipped straight to your door.
